    Winning Photographer Marco Di Stefano

    Winning Photographer Marco Di Stefano

    โ€œBeach and Blossomโ€ - Tenerife, Canary Islands
In a quaint little town, adjacent to a bustling beach is a miniature square with the most incredibly vivid blossoms. Their colors against the blue sky appearing even more intense. I took several shots in this area. A family sitting in the shade were confused by my fascination with the trees that seemed somehow out of place at a seaside location. ยฉ Marco Di Stefano

    โ€œFlamingoโ€
โ€œMy work is rooted in the serenity I find in the sinuous elegance of organic forms. Iโ€™m transformed in capturing the stillness of the suspended movement of light and compelled to preserve the visual poetry of these fleeting moments of vanishing beauty in our vulnerable environment. I photograph intuitively โ€“ what I feel, as much as what I see. Informed by a background in painting and art history, my images are layered digitally with color and texture to manipulate the boundaries between the real and imagined, and are often altered within the edition, honoring the variations.โ€ This image is the result of an artistic process that fuses digital techniques with hand-gilding. ยฉ Wendi Schneider

โ€œI was immediately drawn to this location because of the red tinted glass and yellow building behind it. However, I thought the photo needed a cool color to create a good color balance/contrast. I achieved this by using a car window to reflect the blue sky into my image.โ€ ยฉ Hansae Lee
  • colourful portrait of a Chinese fisherman mending nets by Alex Berger

    Finalist Alex Berger

    Finalist Alex Berger

    โ€œRainy Daysโ€ - Xiapu County, China
A portrait taken in a small Chinese fishing village on a rainy day. The natural light spills in through an old loading bay onto a stage which served as a space for laying out a vibrant blue net. This shot and the setup, the colors, the net - are all absolutely stunning. Enough so, that I still decided to pay to take it and look forward to editing and sharing the final images down the road. Itโ€™s also one of the most artificial photos Iโ€™ve probably ever taken. This is a local model in a small fishing village who is very well compensated for the 10-20 minute photoshoot. The scene looks almost identical from photographer to photographer, because itโ€™s all staged in an old warehouse. Anyone who has tried to pass it off as something else is absolutely full of it. Still, like the Cormorant fishermen of Guilin, or the net fishermen of Inle Lake - it does create and capture a beautiful scene inspired by a historic reality, if not directly representing it. ยฉ Alex Berger

    โ€œBeach and Blossomโ€ - Tenerife, Canary Islands
In a quaint little town, adjacent to a bustling beach is a miniature square with the most incredibly vivid blossoms. Their colors against the blue sky appearing even more intense.
